1999 Corvette FRC
A number of vehicles came and went between 2007 when I bought the F85 and 2013 when I bought the FRC. I had a 1978 Ski Tique that I had been restoring but had sort of hit a wall in wanting to repaint the hull while retaining the original look. A friend was selling off some toys as he was trying to start a new business. He had a mostly restored 1987 Ski Nautique for sale that in my mind was everything my Ski Tique was not but I wasn’t totally sold. He also had a far from stock 99 FRC that I was honestly more interested in than the boat. After some back and forth he offered me both as a package deal at a price I was happy with.
Within a couple weeks of buying it the differential started howling and it had an occasional 4th gear grind. In went a new clutch and drivetrain out of another wrecked c5. In spring of 2014 despite the engine being rebuilt to fix the issue we found it was still filling the oil with coolant. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but eventually decided on a junkyard 6L LQ9 out of an Escalade with a TSP 228R cam and supporting mods.
While I had a couple friends offer the use of their lifts I wanted to do the work at my pace and not have to tow the car back and forth. I purchased a MaxJax and created a workbay out of my newly finished garage addition.
The car has seen many changes since then but we’ll get into that at a later date.
