Taking down the old garage

My Aunt and Uncle were kind enough to (once again) store vehicles/boats for me at their house and farm as the build was underway. The rest of the stuff (workbench, air compressor, toolboxes etc) would go in the attached garage until the shop was ready. The plan was to get as many helpers as I could and try to take the garage down over an extended weekend.

The preceding weekend my Dad and I took down the garage door and my Mom and Charlotte dug up the electrical conduit. I spent nights after work the preceding week removing the shingles, siding, and trim.

Cut a steel rod in half to make winding bars to take the door down.
Ready for the big push.

We popped off the wall and roof sheathing with sledge hammers and managed to save most of it. We dropped the front wall (with garage door header) as a unit after bracing the walls. To remove the rafters we eventually settled on flipping them upside down so two people could pick them up and carry them out from the ground.

Everything we saved was stacked in the attached garage and everything else was hauled to the dump in a few trips. A dumpster might have been worth it in the end…

Wood scraps full of too many nails to save.
We left the concrete for the pros to remove.
