Gaining Access to Crawlspace
Long before we bought the house a couple additions were added. We think the house was originally a 2 bedroom ranch. Two additions were added: one significantly expanding the living room and the other adding two bedrooms and two closets. Unfortunately for us they not only decided to go with crawl spaces instead of expanding the basement under each but they also did not add any access into them besides the tiny windows which I think I last fit through in grade school…
This actually presented an issue on our second day owning the house as the Charter install guy was unable to verify the coax was properly grounded because it ran into the crawlspace where there was no access. He eventually said he was able to verify the ground…although I’m not sure if that is true.
I needed access into the crawlspace in order to get the gas line and Ethernet cables run out to the shop. After pulling measurements I was sure beyond a reasonable doubt that the closet for the original 2nd bedroom was part of the addition and as such was over the crawlspace. I decided that was the best place to cut a hole in the floor to gain access.
