2021: The Year of the Detail Part 2

While I detailed each of the previous cars the truck lingered in my mind. If I really tried I could knock out a car in one evening. But the truck is so much bigger…panels alone and I can barely clean the windshield even with a ladder. How will I do the roof? There is also the issue of the extremely complex front grill and bumper which were totally covered in bugs and no amount of washing ever truly removed them. It just always looked dull. I decided I needed some help for cleaning up all the bugs. I went with this bug spray and these bug sponges.

Charlotte took the truck to her parents to pick up a pile of rocks for a pond project and when she got back I got to work cleaning off all the bugs. It took awhile but not nearly as long as I thought it would. Once the rocks were unloaded I power washed the bed and then the rest of the truck as it had picked up dirt and mud from her parent’s gravel driveway. Following that I gave it a deep two bucket wash, followed by a nanoskin “claybar” session and then wax. Like all the cars before it I didn’t do any polishing as I have yet to invest in a DA polisher.

I am very pleased with the results. Looking great for a 5 year old truck that has seen 5 years of salt duty.

Finally, I wanted to detail the IROC both to see how well it cleaned up and to give it some protection for the upcoming work it will be getting this winter. The wax won’t be going anywhere as the car just sits in the back of the shop.

And with that, aside from maintenance washes, detailing should be done for the year!
